Treatment options: Rest, ice, compression, elevation -- if your injury occured 72+ hours ago then it is acceptable to switch to heat instead of ice, to deal with swelling. Icyhot doesn't cause the same healing effect of ice or heat. Topicals such as this are known as counterirritants that trick pain receptors, but really do nothing more than numb the area. You may also wish to try an nsaid, if you can take such.
