Yes & no: Combination hormonal birth control pills work in 2 different ways. Estrogen prevents ovulation while progestin thins lining. You can get progestin-only birth control pill but not estrogen-only. Check out http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/how-do-birth-control-pills-work for more info.
