Kinda sorta . . .: Weight gain associated w/prednisone typically isn't good weight. In other words, it tends to be fat rather than muscle. Of note, you can't "convert" fat into muscle. However, w/good nutrition & regular exercise, you can shed fat & gain muscle. Not easy, but definitely worth effort. Stay in close contact w/your Nephrologist (kidney specialist) and Family Doc. You need exercise: The weight related to corticosteroids is fat and the muscle can lose density. You need weigth control, exercise but some of this is beyond of your control. There have been developed diets for this setting and you can discuss this with your physician. I have seen little promise form these unfortuantely. Advise from the lupus foundation includes: Here are some things to keep in mind: Plan meals ahead Limit serving size Drink lots of water Get plenty of calcium from low-fat milk, yogurt and cheese Eat smaller meals 3-5 times a day Avoid temptations
