Meds: There is no one be-all and end-all medication for hyperactivity, or any other mental health disorder for that matter. Finding the right med in the right dosage for the right patient is a slow, painstaking process of trial and error. It's more of an art than a science.

It depends: There are many meds that treat these conditions. Some are stimulants and some are not. There is not one pill that, helps everyone the most. Some people really benefit from Adderall but others find it overly stimulating. Many people benefit from Strattera, not a stimulant, or Wellbutrin, (bupropion) an antidepressant. You and your doctor can make this decision together.

There is no one size: fits all for ADD or ADHD as each individual has different needs and learning styles as well as different responses to day to day demands. Treatment requires both carefully considered medication as well as counseling and educational accommodation. Co morbid conditions such as depression have to also be addressed either with medication of therapy.

Highly individual: There are 2 stimulant medications, Methylphenidate and Amphetamine, each with multiple delivery systems. Generally, long-acting preparations are preferred because of single daily dosing. . Initial low doses are titrated up to optimal effec For a valid diagnosis of ADHD in adulthood, a patient's symptoms must have started by age 10 & caused significant harm at home & school for at least 6 months.

Caffeine: Many are suspicious of medication and others just don't want to take pills. For decades I've suggested coffee or tea. Mate tea is the most caffeinated. It's been used for millenia in the Andes Mountains of South America. Don't take it after 2 PM because it impacts on the sleep cycle.
