Grapefruit and meds: We actually stopped serving grapefruit and grapefruit juice to our hospital patients a number of years ago because of the potential for interactions with many medications. Grapefruit can affect how drugs are absorbed from the GI tract into the bloodstream and also how drugs are metabolized by the liver. This can lead to much higher than expected levels of the drug in the blood. Avoid this combo.
