Possible TMJ: one possibility would be TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) which can cause pain right in front of the ears, specially when opening and closing your mouth. Are you crunching your teeth at night? You may need to see a dentist and be evaluated for TMJ and possibly have a mouth guard made for you. Another possibility would be inflammation of the parotid glands, which produce saliva.
