Yes, it can: D-dimers are non specific. Small rises in their levels can occur with bruises, repeat blood draw attempt, etc- basicaly anything that can cause blood to accumulate and clot anywhere in the body can cause high d dimers. NORMAL levels of d-dimers practically exclude potentially lethal blood clots, such as DVT or pulmonary embolism.
