Many reasons: There are several ways yes. Diverticulitis (little sac out-pouchings in the colon) can rupture and lead to this. Irritation anywhere in the pelvis can lead to fluid and or abscess. The list does go on. These things can resolve spontaneously...but do sometimes require CT guided or US guided drainage.
