Absent menses: Norcolut contains the progestin norethindrone or norethisterone. Progestins counteract the proliferation of the uterine endometrium (the inner lining of the uterus that is built up and shed during a menstrual cycle) and can interfere with estrogen production. Both effects can result in amenorrhea, the absence of menstrual periods.
