A member asked:

If my 13 month old were to step on a nail, would he have to get a tetanus shot?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Up to date?: If your child is up to date on their vaccines, they would have already received three doses (at 2, 4, and 6 months of age) of dtap, which contains the tetanus vaccine. If a child has received at least 3 doses of vaccine and the last dose is within 5 years of the injury (an up to date 13 month old would fit this description), additional tetanus toxoid is not needed for any type of wound.
