Many causes: Several problems can cause hand swelling and stiff fingers. Most commonly it is attributed to arthritis. As we age we slowly wear away the cartridge of our joints. The body responds by sending fluid to the area to attempt to cushion the opposing bones. This results in the swelling and stiffness. Check with a hand surgeon and get some x-rays of your hands.
