Excellent question: Very insightful question! Actually, research showing persistence in the intestine isn't new, but its potetential importance was discussed in a recent paper by respected chlamydia researchers -- old knowledge "rediscovered". However, the true frequency and importance in leading to genital reinfections is unknown, maybe different with various antibiotics. More research is needed; stay tuned!
