Very common : As an ORS; greater trochanter hip bursitis is commonly seen; 'weak' outer hips is not frequently heard. He or she may be referring to weak hip abductor muscles which may be helped w/ strengthening exercises... Hip bursitis is very common and often seen in runners, people w/ leg length discrepancies or lower back pain, and often as a result of mild limping secondary to a host of maladies! good Luck!
