No, not reliable: You don't say what antibiotic, but I assume you are referring to azithromycin (Zithromax). A single dose of 1 gram (1000 mg) is one of the main recommended treatments, but 500 mg definitely is not enough. I'm worried you are tempted to share a 1 gram dose with your partner. It won't work; neither of you will be cured. You both need the full dose; call your doctor(s) about it.
