Brain injury: Sounds like you are talking about a dissecting vascular injury where a blood vessel is "dissecting" which means the wall of the blood vessel is being dissecting by blood that has been pushing in between the normal anatomical layers of the blood vessel.

Damage to artery: Dissection usually relates to injury to an artery when part of the multilayer of the artery partially tears and blood gets between the layers.
