Hoping you can tell me, is brain injury/ brain damage the same as a mental illness?

No: Brain injury is damage to the brain as an organ. Most mental illness is seen in patients without a structural abnormality of the brain as an organ. However, some patients who have had brain injury are predisposed to certain forms or mental illness down the road.
