A member asked:

My brother fell & hs blood on brain & fractured skull.he cannot swollow .will this go away as thy want put feeding tube in him & hope it not permanent?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Head injury: It is difficult to answer this question with the information provided. Feeding tubes are used in the recovery phase of a head injury to ensure proper nutrition and to avoid aspiration. Once your brother is taking in enough calories orally then the tube can be removed in the office and the hole where the tube was closes in a day or two. Discuss the prognosis for recovery with the neurosurgeon.
