Depends: Self-injury has many possible causes. These include self-injurious behavior by individuals who suffer from autism, self-injurious behavior from individuals who suffer from excessive emotional stress, self-injurious behavior from individuals who have borderline personality disorder and feel emotionally numb, and self-injurious behavior from failed suicide attempts.
