A member asked:

How effective is methylprednisolone (solu-medrol) for treating alcoholic hepatitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: on the severity of the hepatitis. The single most important thing in the treatment of alcoholic liver disease is the ABSOLUTE avoidance of alcohol, as well as weight loss in those who are obese/overweight. Several drugs, including pentixophyllin and steroids like methylprednisolone may improve healing, but the prognosis may still be poor if the liver has started to fail. STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL.
