A member asked:

What do stimulants do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They activate: physiological functions generally through various neurotransmitter systems. Common examples include caffeine, nicotine, pseudoephedrine, amphetamines and cocaine. Drugs classed as stimulants are not all alike as they act in different ways. Prescription stimulants have legitimate medical benefits. Illicit use, abuse and addiction to stimulants is common and quite dangerous.
