Spinal cord low: In fetal life, the spinal cord segments line up with the vertebral segments. As a child grows, the end of the cord rises. In a tethered cord, it is fixed in place and cannot rise. As a result the cord is put on stretch. Consequences include problems with bladder and bowel function when your would have expected toilet training would be completed.
