Doesn't treat it: Cough suppressants will not treat the cause of Croup (a viral infection), but may help suppress a cough to promote comfort and adequate rest.

Croup: Croup is an infection of the voice box (larynx) and windpipe (trachea). These are the upper and lower parts of the breathing tube that connects the mouth to the top of the lungs. The usual cause of croup is a viral infection. Several viruses can cause croup. Treatment is oral steroids.
