A member asked:

How does a hole in the septum of the heart affect a person's health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Septal defect: depends on size of hole and flow of blood through it. If very small and little flow may not be very problematic. If large size and flow can develop into heart failure and related trouble. Can progress over years and gradually develop trouble. Needs evaluation and follow up by cardiologist.
