Many things: Infection Early cancer Nodules Atelectasis Fluid overload

"Hazy Density": is a very nonspecific, vague description that could imply a laundry list of infectious, inflammatory, neoplastic, or other processes. If this is a chest xray finding, sometimes it is an artifact due to technical reasons and turns out to be nothing at all.

A 32-year-old member asked:

What occurs if an unbiodegradable object entered your lungs?

Dr. Charles Sturgis
Pathology 29 years experience
Depends on size...: If an object entered the lung, it might obstruct a bronchus (air tube). An object the size of a dime could do that. This might restrict airflow to that segment of lung, and might set the patient up for impacted mucus and post obstructive pneumonia. Very small particles could pass into the peripheral lung, and the body would attempt to wall these off by an inflammatory response and fibrosis.

How long should your lungs take to recover from smoking?

Dr. Adam Front

Some quick some slow: Many of the benefits of quitting smoking can be felt in the first my understanding is that it takes about 7 years for all the cells in the lungs to be replaced with new ones. You should consult your doctor to assess any specific concerns or symptoms and follow any diagnostic recommendations offered (tests etc).

A 22-year-old female asked:

Is there any at home tests i can do to see if my lungs are healthy?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Keegan Duchicela
Family Medicine 14 years experience
No at home tests: There are no reliable at home tests to asses lung healthiness. We use pulmonary function tests in the office, which are indicated if we suspect asthma or copd. If you don't smoke and do aerobic exercise regularly, you probably have pretty healthy lungs!
