A member asked:

Can being anxious about bowel movements make them worse? tense muscles and create a feeling of incomplete bowel emptying?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anxiety and BMs: Anxiety can certainly affect the passage of bowel movements. Young women with anxiety can suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction which results in the incomplete passage of bowel movements. Pelvic floor dysfunction results from contracting those muscles you should be relaxing, and vice versa.
