A member asked:

I have polycythemia and the cause is currently unknown. how much should i expect my red blood cell counts to drop from phlebotomy alone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hemoglobin: Removing one unit of blood would, on average, reduce your hemoglobin by 1.0 gm%. In terms of red cell count it would be about 0.3 million RBC/cmm.
