Can Be...: Elevated total serum IgE is seen in mainly allergic diseases like allergic rhinitis and eczema. It is also seen in some primary immunodeficiencies, parasitic and viral infections, certain inflammatory diseases, and some malignancies. Atopic conditions like allergic rhinitis and eczema definitely have a genetic component to them.

Possibly: Studies have shown that SE Asians tend to have higher IgE than the US whites. However part of that could have been environmental such as exposure to parasitic infections. If you have atopic dermatitis, this number is not unexpected. It is more important to know what your disease condition, which had led to getting the blood test, is than trying to guess what might have caused the elevated IgE.
