My child is day 9 post op for tonsillectomy and adenoid removal and she is still in a lot of pain and still has lots of phlegm....is this normal?

No: At 9 days she should be well on her way to recovery. The persistent pain and phlegm may indicate infection. If she is unable to take fluids, she may become dehydrated. Have her rechecked be her ENT surgeon. All the best and I hope she feels better soon.

Mgt: I agree that a follow up appt is indicated. In the meantime, provide non acidic fluids and monitor her temperature. If there is a fever, please urgently call your physician.
