Retinal Specialist: All diabetics need an annual dilated retinal examination. The reason for this is that the retina can develop changes before they are noticeable to the patient. Once a patient has a vision problem, it is generally more difficult to deal with than prevention. See a retina specialist to discuss the many options currently available to treat diabetic retinopathy. The examination is critical.
