Depends: Not sure what medicine you took and different meds will take longer to work. If you have been having chest pain associated with an elevated blood pressure that is not a symptom you should be managing yourself at home. You should be evaluated in the emergency room to determine if the pain is related to damage to the heart muscle.

Emergency: The combination of chest discomfort and elevation of bp to that level is a medical emergency. You must get to a hospital emergency room as soon as possible for evaluation and summoning help by calling 911 is the safest way to get help and get into the medical system.
