Lymphadenopathy: Usually swollen lymph nodes happen in reaction to a cold. If they persist and do not shrink over time after the cold is gone then you need to see your doctor for a possible biopsy.

Lymphadenopathy: It sounds like your doctor was referring to "lymphadenopathy" which means the glands in your neck are swollen - most likely to combat an infection. If this is the case - medications such as ibuprofen and sometimes even prednisone are indicated to reduce swelling.
