Dysesthesia: The most common paresthesia is "pins and needles," when a foot or hand "falls asleep." Paresthesia has no permanent ill effects, relatively mild, and can be from mild nerve compression. DYSesthesia is a sign of nerve damage, a painfully abnormal feeling like diabetic neuropathy. Medicine like Gabapentin or Pregabalin, Duloxetine or Trazadone can help with the pain but do not stop the paresthesias.
