A member asked:

Is arthritis hereditary or is there something that can cause it to happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can be either: Inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, has a hereditary component but may be cause by a virus. It can also be caused by untreated strep throat. Degenerative arthritis is primarily hereditary, but can be caused by previous injury such as a fracture, multiple sprains, etc.
