A member asked:

I've got a thumb-toe callus. it quickly passed just to ultimately became a small (1cm) violet spot and has been like that for weeks. should i worry?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A callus is : No more than dead skin, usually under a weight bearing spot from pressure or friction. Concern for callous is that as it builds up it can be painful. Or, if one has neuropathy and don't feel discomfort something can be brewing under the callous. Hyperpigmentation is a different story. Can be blood under the skin, or something else. All pigmented lesions need to be examined.
