Just be there: The most important thing in comforting someone who may have cancer is to be present. Listen, be supportive. Don't feel like you have to have the answers. Your friend's mood is going to fluctuate (depressed, angry, happy, etc). Hang on and just be supportive while protecting your friend from doing anything rash or unwise.You may also encourage him to get counseling if things get too intense for you.
