A member asked:

Pencil thin stools. very little amount of bright red rectal bleeding. abdominal pain. could it be colon cancer? im 18 years old. (no cancer in family)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You need an exam: although it would be rare in someone your age to have colon cancer, especially without a family history, you should definitely be seen and examined by a qualified colorectal surgeon or GI... if you are also having sharp anal pain with BMs you might have something simple like an anal fissure, which can also cause bleeding and (occasionally) pencil thin stools.
