Globus sensation: The lump in the throat is commonly referred to as a globus sensation. Probably an abnormal sensory signal to the brain. Don't know the cause, but common with reflux disease, and not dangerous. The hoarse feeling could be many things, most obviously smoking. Inhaling heated gas full of particles that cause many types of cancer on a daily basis is bad at any level. I recommend stopping this 1st.

Tobacco: I would say the best thing any of my patients have ever done for themselves is to quit smoking! See a doctor to assess the lumpy sensation. Smokers are at an increased risk for oropharyngeal cancer but this would be unlikely in such a a young patient.
