Unfortunately, no: Risk of middle ear infection increases during the process of resolving upper respiratory viral illness. However, infection is not the only cause of ear pain. A good physical examination with experienced pediatrician that knows your daughter is needed. For true otitis media, there is no substitute for antibiotics. If prescribed, ask for advice on how to prevent recurrence of c diff (eg yogurt)
