A member asked:

Is processed meats made with carmelized sugars instead of sodium nitrates ok to eat?

Yes, but: not the most nutritious option. Cooking fresh meat is better. Removing the nitrates has healthful benefits, but adding carmelized sugar carries all expected risk (weight gain, missed nutrients when filling up on high carb foods, tooth decay, insulin intolerance, etc)
