Referrals: W/o prior adrenal disease, only lengthy, high dose prednisone could result in them underperforming and leading to depression. It's more likely reactive depression and a Psych Eval may help. So may followup by neurologist from TBI. A course of therapy w/ Health Psychologist may help adjust to injury/aftermath.

Unavoidable: Prednisone and steroids make people anxious, manic or psychotic, withdrawal leads to depression. This usually resolves with time (2 weeks) but antidepressant might help. TBI patients are like CVA pts with risk of mood disorder tx with antidepressants and mood stabilizers

Taper: How long on pred? Couple of weeks? Is the desired effect for TBI complete and now just tapering down? Seems like you may be ok with a faster taper (by 5mg every 2-3 days) as long as it is no longer needed for swelling.
