How effective is aversion therapy for treating alcoholism?

Antabuse (disulfiram): If the aversion therapy involves the use of a drug called Antabuse (disulfiram), (disulfiram) then yes, aversion therapy can be very effective. Antabuse (disulfiram) makes the alcoholic violently ill if alcohol is ingested, and violently ill means beyond dry-heavees.

Alcohol aversion: Therapy is effective under supervision. If no supervision, non-compliance due to unpleasant effects of mixing alcohol with Antabuse, (disulfiram) becomes a major barrier to recovery.
