A member asked:

Why are cold drinks bad for your oral health?

Content matters: The temperature of the drink is not as important as its content. Huge sugary drinks, such a sodas and lemonade, which contain large amounts of sugar are not a great choice in general on a regular basis. It is not a good idea to chew ice as it can create micro fractures, leading to additional dental concerns.

Drink water: Sodas, fruit juice and acidic foods can harm teeth. Also chew on ice, especially the leftover ice after finishing a cold drink. Drink water is the best!

They aren't: Chewing the ice in the cold drinks is bad for your teeth, but cold liquids are not a risk. Sugar and acids in the drinks are bad , but the cold part is not an issue. However, if you have many metal fillings and/or root surfaces exposed, then you may cause trauma to the nerve in the tooth as the cold will be transmitted to it and irritate it. Sensitivity results. Good Luck.
