Ergot in Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy due to oxytocic effects which are maximal in third trimester, due to prolonged vasoconstriction of uterine vessels with increased uterine muscle tone leading to reduced blood flow & growth retardation, as noted in animal studies. It is Category X pregnancy (contraindicated).
