A member asked:

What parts of a neuron break down when someone has a neurological condition?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Varies: Some diseases affect peripheral nerves, others nerves within the brain and spinal cord. The surface of the nerve, either myelin coverings or Schwann cell functions, or even inside nerve, axon, can be separately or fully involved. Some diseases affect nerve cell predominantly. Your question is far too broad to cover here. A textbook of neurology will be more comprehensive.
