A member asked:

How does being imprisoned affect someone's emotional health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prison: Speaking as one who worked as a diagnostician in corrections, for the most part, prison does nothing more than aggravate mental health conditions. The only exception to this are people who stop breaking the law and do not go back to prison. A prison is essentially nothing more than an underfunded, understaffed, overcrowded, and therefore poorly run mental hospital.
