Variable: Xeloda (capecitabine) can cause varied side effects. Majority of patients experience skin toxicity in the form of dry skin which tends to become cracked and painful (it is called Hand foot syndrome because it is most marked on the palms and soles) . Some patients develop painful sores in the mouth(mucositis). Diarrhea is another common side effect. Some patients are genetically prone to very severe reactions.
