Try cream first: Try thorough cleansing with gentle soap and water one or two times a day, then applying over the counter hydrocortisone 1% cream at night for a few days. If the itching continues, you need to get seen by a doctor. It is likely caused by a fissure or hemorrhoid that should calm down with the above treatment, but it could be an infection that needs further treatment.
