Start with alignment: Excessive pronation is the motion you are describing and it causes poor alignment beginning at the feet creating problems with the knees, hips and lower back. Orthotic devices or braces (AFO) at the feet and ankles can begin to correct alignment which can improve knees, hips and back symptoms. A practitioner trained in biomechanics can provide a detailed exam.
