Observation: The average incubation period after exposure for the first time is 4 days (range, 2 to 12 days). Reactivation of dormant lesions after prior exposure may be sooner. The vesicles break and leave painful ulcers that may take two to four weeks to heal. If persisted or worsened, see your PCP.
