A member asked:

How can radiation both cause and heal cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exposure vs directed: Exposure of whole body to large amounts of radiation or chronic low amounts of radiation can induce mutations in normal cells that cause mutations to allow cancer to develop. After exposure cancer development takes years. Some organs tolerate more radiation than others. Focused high dose radiation can induce lethal mutations in cancer cells while minimizing exposure to normal cells.
